Cheri Coryea Promoted to Deputy County Administrator

Posted
BRADENTON – Cheri Coryea was unanimously approved by the Manatee County Commission to be promoted to Deputy County Administrator during Tuesday’s meeting. Coryea, who has been in management with the county for the past 26 years, spent the past decade as Director of Neighborhood Services.

Coryea has been filling the position in an interim role since Karen Windon retired this summer. While Director of the Neighborhood Services Department, Coryea oversaw the merger of the Community Services Department into that department.

"Cheri has been with us for a very long time," County Administrator Ed Hunzeker said in recommending Cheri's appointment to the Board. "She is well respected by department directors, colleagues and the community. She is a true professional and it's an it's an honor to recommend that you approve her appointment as DCA."

Coryea has a good relationship with commissioners who were enthusiastic in their support.

"I can picture every single employee standing behind you, supporting you today," Commission Chairman Betsy Benac said. "It's wonderful to see you in this position."

"Kudos. Great job," said Commissioner Robin DiSabatino. "Whenever I call or ask Cheri anything, she's right there with the answers. Nothing is too small, anytime day or night."

Coryea said that it was her honor to accept the new position, thanking Hunzeker, fellow Deputy County Administrator Dan Schlandt and her colleagues and employees in the Neighborhood Services Department.

"I've been here for quite a while and this is my family," Cheri said. "I want to thank Neighborhood Services, Community Services. They're wonderful. I couldn't do the job we do without the amazing job our employees do."

As Neighborhood Services Director, Coryea managed an annual budget of over $44 million, including federal, state, and local grants. She also led the creation of the Economic Development Incentive Program (EDI), Health Care for the medically needy, and the Children’s Services Tax. With the promotion, she joins the top ranks of an administration that will continue to transition with the pending retirement of Hunzeker.
