Commissioner Bustle Will Not Seek Re-election in 2016

Posted

MANATEE COUNTY – Manatee County Commissioner Larry Bustle (R-District 1) has announced that he will not run for a third term in 2016. The former Palmetto Mayor suffered a stroke in early May. After spending more than three months recovering, he returned to meetings via phone participation this month and plans to be back attending meetings in person in October.

Bustle made the following statement Wednesday via email:

I was recently given clearance by my doctor to resume a limited schedule as part of the County Commission. I participated in Board meetings by telephone this month and I plan to attend to many meetings in person in October.

After a summer of rest, rehabilitation, recovery and careful reflection, I have decided not to run for reelection next year. In 2016 I will finish my second term on the County Commission and begin a new chapter in my life’s journey devoted to time with my wife Edie, my family and my friends.

I appreciate the patience, prayers and sincere support from my colleagues on the Board, my friends, my family and from the people of Manatee County. It has been a distinct privilege and honor to devote my adult life first in the service of my country and then in the service of my community. After 46 years in public service, I say thank you.

Currently, there are two candidates who have filed to run for the seat, which covers some of Palmetto, all of Parish, Ellenton, Duette, as well as much of unincorporated areas in the north part of Manatee County.
