District to Again Ask School Board for Additional Time and Money for ERP Project

BRADENTON – At Tuesday’s meeting, the Manatee School Board will be asked to approve a change order request of $4,250,265 and a five-month delay for the start date in the long-challenged implementation of a new Enterprise Resource Planning program.
ERP management information systems integrate multiple areas, such as finance, purchasing and human resources, into one system. The district initiated the process in 2013. Superintendent Dr. Dianna Greene ultimately brought it to the board with an implementation cost of just $8-10 million. However, Tuesday’s vote would push the cost to around $21 million, not including staff time.
The project has not only suffered cost overruns but delays, and Tuesday’s vote would push its most recent go-live date from February 1, 2018, all the way to July 1, 2018. In a letter responding to the district’s request for assurances that the July 1 date would be "met without exception,“ the project vendor, Michigan-based Ciber Global, said it "remained committed,“ but that it would ultimately depend on too many factors outside of the company’s control.
The company cited delayed decision making on the district’s behalf as a reason the most recent delay. Tuesday’s meeting will take place in the school board chambers and begins at 5:45 p.m.
