BRADENTON – Two years after after having her contract extended and fresh off the passage of a school property tax increase, Manatee School District Superintendent Diana Greene is job hunting. Greene is currently a candidate for the same position in Duval County Schools.
Greene was promoted from deputy superintendent for one year in May of 2015, following the early retirement of Rick Mills who had brought her on from Marion County when he was hired by the district in 2013.
In 2016, the school board unanimously voted to extend Greene's contract until June 30, 2020, at a compensation package worth over $200,000. According to Duval County Schools' website, the list of candidates will be presented to the board on Monday. Interviews will take place on May 11 and 12, and the school board will identify semi-finalists shortly after.
Duval County's school district is about two and a half times the size of Manatee. Their last permanent superintendent, Nikolai Vitti, left in May of 2017 to take over Detroit's public schools. An interim superintendent has been serving since. Vitti's base salary was $275,000.
