Palmetto City Commission Agenda Results: May 17, 2016

PALMETTO – At Monday's Palmetto City Commission meeting, members took the first step in passing Ordinance 2016-07, limiting the number of times after a security alarm goes off that police can be called to a residency before a cost for the call is assessed. In other business, members voted to sell the property at 706 13th Street West as surplus property.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF PALMETTO, FLORIDA, AMENDING THE PALMETTO CODE OF ORDINANCES; PROVIDING FOR THE REGULATION OF SECURITY ALARM BUSINESSES AND SYSTEMS; PROVIDING FOR DEFITIONS AND EXEMPTIONS; PROVIDING FOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND PENALTIES FOR ALARM VIOLATIONS; PROVIDING FOR INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE STANDARDS FOR ALARM SYSTEMS; PROVIDING FOR ENFORCEMENT PROCEDURES; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

5. SURPLUS PROPERTY (J. Freeman) (TAB 8)
Surplus of City owned property at 706 13 Street West.

Action Request: Motion to declare the property located at 706 13 Street West as surplus as it is no longer needed for municipal purposes. – Approved, Unanimous

6. APRIL CHECK REGISTER (Informational Only) (TAB 9)

7. TRAFFIC UPDATE – Wednesday the 18th MCAT will be holding a public meeting here in these chambers. They want to hear the concerns of the public on MCAT issues. The meeting will start at 2:30 p.m.

8. DEPARTMENT HEADS’ COMMENTS

– City Clerk Jim Freeman said he put in a request with the Supervisor of Elections to see if and when the election flyers are going out. Freeman also reminded the commission more renovations of the chambers will be going on over the next two weeks.
– Allen Tusing said this dry season is escorting in gray water saving conservation rules that restrict watering four days a week and allow recycled water use Monday, Wednesday and Saturday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.


10. COMMISSIONERS’ COMMENTS
– Davis said June 5 is the Fabulous Fashion Show at 4 p.m.
– Williams said he is hoping and waiting to get some dates to start the meetings that deal with the recent moratorium the commission placed on permits within the inner city of Palmetto.
– Varnadore said she is echoing what commissioner Williams said.
