School District Announces Admin Changes

BRADENTON – Wendell Butler, Jr. has been named the new Principal at Bayshore High School, Braden River High School Principal Jennifer Gilray is moving to Manatee Technical College to become an Assistant Director, and Haile Middle School Principal Sharon Scarbrough will replace Ms. Gilray as the new Principal at Braden River High, according to administrative moves announced this week by the School District of Manatee County.

A graduate of Southeast High School, Mr. Butler has served as the Assistant Principal at Southeast since 2011. Prior to that position, Mr. Butler was a Social Studies Teacher at Southeast from January 2004 to July 2011. Mr. Butler replaces David Underhill as the Principal at Bayshore High. Mr. Underhill, who has served as Principal at Bayshore High since July of 2000, is replacing Don Sauer as the Principal at Manatee High School. Mr. Sauer is moving to the district office to take over the position of Supervisor of Student Demographics, Projections and Assignment.

Ms. Gilray has served as Principal at Braden River High since 2012. Prior to that, she served as an Assistant Principal at the school from 2005 to 2012. Ms. Gilray began her career in education as a Health Educator and English Teacher at Lakewood Ranch High School in 1999.

Ms. Scarbrough has been the Principal at Haile Middle School since 2014. Prior to that, she served as Principal at Sugg Middle School from 2009 to 2014 and as an Assistant Principal at Buffalo Creek Middle (2008-2009) and Haile Middle (2004-2009). Ms. Scarbrough began her career in the School District of Manatee County as a long-term substitute in 1995 before becoming an Administrative Parent Liaison at the school. She also taught World History for two years at Southeast.
