Darlene Marie Brouwer, 78, of Palmetto FL, died peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her family on April 18, 2024, following a battle with cancer.
Darlene was born in Massillon, Ohio, to James and Betty Hammel. She graduated from Navarre High School in 1964, then moved to Florida where she married her husband, Frans. Frans and Darlene were married for 58 years and had three children, Mary, Suzy and James.
Darlene was a devoted wife and mother who stayed home to raise her family, then returned to college to pursue a degree in nursing from Manatee Community College. She worked in Bradenton as a surgical nurse for more than 20 years before retiring to enjoy life as grandma to her 5 grandchildren. Darlene loved spending time with family and friends, baking and travel. She was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Frans; three children, Mary DeRussy, Suzy Anderson, James Brouwer (Rebecca) and five grandchildren, Brian, Joshua, Reagan, Morgan and Addison.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 505 26th St W, Palmetto, FL, on Saturday April 27, 2024, at 10:30 A.M., followed by interment at the memorial garden and a reception in the church hall.
