Eugene "Gene" Hany, 92, of Bradenton passed away March 10, 2024. Gene was born in Lexington, IL, to Clarence Hany and Lucille (Ogden) Hany. The family moved to Elkhart, IN, and Gene graduated from Elkhart High School. He served in the Korean War as an Army staff sergeant where he was awarded a Bronze Star. He attended and graduated from Ball State University to have an impactful career as a history teacher and beloved coach.

He coached at Ambia High School, Shipshewana High School, Hoagland High School, and Heritage High School. His basketball teams won a sectional championship at Ambia High School (1961) and an Allen County tournament championship at Hoagland High School (1967). Always active in the community, he participated in several ministries including Wondering Wheels bicycle and bus ministry.

After retirement, Gene and Carol moved to Golf Lakes in Bradenton, FL, where they resided for 22 years. At Golf Lakes, Gene continued his active lifestyle. He and Carol enjoyed volunteer work. They traveled to several states including Alaska with Volunteers in Mission of the Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nita Smith. He is survived by his wife, Carol of 72 years; his brother, Eldon (Cindy) Hany of Washington state; his daughter, Debbie (Derrall) Benzinger of Liberty, MO; his son, Michael (Cindy) Hany of Fort Wayne, IN; five granddaughters, a step-grandson, a step-granddaughter and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by beloved close family friends Hank and Cheryl Nietert of New Haven, IN, and Matthijs and Diewerke Wierts of the Netherlands.

A Service will be held 10 AM, April 2, 2024, at Oneco Hope Global Methodist Church 2112 53rd Ave. E., Bradenton, FL 34203. There will be a Graveside Ceremony at 1 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West, Bradenton, FL 34209, is in charge of arrangements.
