On the afternoon of May 5, 2024, Juanita Jean Hellmer, affectionately known as Jean, peacefully departed this world, surrounded by her adoring family. Jean, aged 97, gracefully bid farewell to her earthly journey.

Born on November 13, 1926, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to McPherson and Helen Edwards, Jean was raised alongside her older brother, William (Bill). Amidst the tumult of World War II, Jean proudly served as a "Rosie the Riveter," contributing to the war effort by crafting shell casings at Bridgeport Brass.
On December 7, Jean united in matrimony with her beloved, Joseph John Hellmer. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family, blessed with five children: Arletta Gant (who passed away in 2001), Linda Bush (Ted), Edward Giddens (Beth), Nancy Copeman (Craig), and Joseph Hellmer (Toni). Relocating to Florida in March 1965, they embarked on a new chapter of their lives.

Jean, a devoted homemaker, found joy in an array of pastimes, from golf, tennis, and bowling to the camaraderie of card games. Her skilled hands crafted countless afghans through her passion for crocheting, each a tangible symbol of her warmth and love. Yet, her greatest delight lay in the cherished moments spent with her grandchildren.

As the seasons of life shifted, Jean found solace and companionship in different abodes. Initially residing with Nancy and her husband Craig for five years, she later found community at Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in October 2022, where she formed cherished friendships while relishing in activities like Bingo and Friday evening's happy hour entertainment.

Jean leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth, embodied by her expansive family. She is survived by 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
A public visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, followed by services at Brown and Sons Funeral Home 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West, Bradenton, FL 34209.
