An Open Letter to the BOCC on Veterans Housing

Posted

Honorable commissioners,

Veterans like myself make up a sizeable portion of the population of Manatee County, and some are not as fortunate as I am to have a stable family life, a place to live, and enough resources to enjoy our beautiful area. Please help them by supporting the Bradenton Veterans Village.

I believe that all of the thousands of veterans in Manatee want you to give our public land on 66th Street for this venture. There is no better use for it. We applaud your support for Turning Points, a non-profit that I think is the finest of its kind anywhere, and combining the efforts of Turning Points with the Veterans Village with its apartment complex, 35 Comfort Homes, and on-site services would be a big step in the direction of eliminating homeless veterans here.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation already has such projects with homes and wraparound services in other states and in Florida, and they are working well. You, and we, often say, “We support our veterans.” Now, let’s show that we truly mean it.

Respectfully,

Eddie Robinette
