Ann McDonald Named Manatee County Principal of the Year

BRADENTON – The School District of Manatee County announced this week that Ann McDonald of Sugg Middle School in West Bradenton will be recognized as the District Principal of the Year. Bernadette Pletcher of Tillman Elementary School in Palmetto was named Assistant Principal of the Year.

Mrs. McDonald has served as Assistant Principal of Manatee High School; as well as being the Principal of Daughtrey Elementary, Manatee Elementary, Johnson Middle and currently, Sugg Middle School. She has been with the School District since 1989.

Mrs. Pletcher has served as an Assistant Principal at Anna Maria Elementary, G.D. Rogers Garden Elementary and Tillman Elementary Schools. She has worked for the district since 2009.

The Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership is to recognize exemplary principals for their contributions to their schools and communities, according to the Florida Department of Education. The program honors leaders who have spearheaded initiatives to increase student performance, promote safe learning environments and establish partnerships with parents and community members.

Both McDonald and Pletcher are eligible to be named Principal and Assistant Principal of the Year for the State of Florida by the Florida Department of Education. That recognition will be announced during the State Board of Education Meeting on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 in Tallahassee.
