Anthony Eldon, a 23-year-old teacher and activist, was selected by the Democratic Party to run in the Florida Senate District 21 race against Republican Jim Boyd when Amanda Linton, the only Democrat to qualify for the race, dropped out after the qualification deadline.
Eldon has said that, if elected, he'd focus on issues like protecting public education, addressing the COVID-19 crisis, improving access to healthcare, and policing/criminal justice reform.
Eldon will have his work cut out for him in challenging Boyd, a Palmetto native and insurance broker who served 8 years in the Florida House before having to give up his seat because of term limits.
Boyd not only has deep ties to the community and broad name recognition in a district Republicans have long dominated, but he's also raised an astounding $305,000 as of the last reporting period, while Eldon had reported only $190.
