Dr. Joe Monteval Wright

Dr. Joe Monteval Wright, DDS, FICDS, age 90, of Bradenton, FL, passed away at home on September 18, 2022.

Joe was born on November 27, 1931, in West Asheville, NC. He was the son of James L. and Mabel V. Wright.

After graduation from Lee Edwards High School in Asheville, Joe enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean conflict, serving in the US and Europe with his wing’s 615th USAF Infirmary. After his discharge in 1954, he attended and graduated from Mars Hill College. Joe married Doris King Hoskins on November 22, 1957, and they moved to Atlanta, where Joe was attending Emory Dental School. Upon Joe's graduation, they moved to Augusta, Ga. then to Bradenton, in March 1961, where Joe practiced dentistry until his retirement in 2015.

Throughout Joe’s life and career, he was active in numerous professional, civic, and hobby organizations. He was a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and past president of the Manatee-Sarasota Dental, West Coast Dental, and Florida Dental Associations. He served on boards in his church, as commodore of Bradenton Yacht Club, and master of Braidentown Lodge #99 F&AM. His love for flying included Manatee County Radio Controllers and Sarasota RC Squadron. A few of his other pastimes included photography, DeSoto Celebration Crew, and local amateur radio.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife Doris and is survived by his sister, JennyAnn Woods of Chester, Va.; son, Dr. John M. Wright (Sue Hepburn) of Issaquah, Wa.; daughter, Jennifer Kenney (Michael) of Wesley Chapel, Fl.; grandchildren, Amanda Brian, Effie and Christopher Kenney; and great-grandson, Vance Brian.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church Bradenton on Saturday, September 24 at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church Bradenton or Tidewell Hospice.
