GHTB Presents Comedy for a Cause

Posted
BRADENTON – Giving Hunger the Blues will kick off its 2019 events with its first comedy show this Thursday. Comedy for a Cause will be held at Gold Coast Eagle Distributing in Lakewood Ranch from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Tickets are only $10 and include $10 worth of drink tickets.

Headlining the event will be JJ Curry, one of Florida's fastest rising stars of stand up comedy. Curry, a Georgia native and Army veteran, is a regular feature act at Side Splitters Comedy Club in Tampa and has been featured at many other clubs throughout Florida.

There will also be a comedy showcase featuring some of the area's top talent, including Mike Stevens, Vien Phommachanh and Darcy Greco. Stevens, who advanced to represent the region in this year's World Series of Comedy at Casino Queen in East St. Louis, IL, is currently featuring for headliner Al Ernst at McCurdy's Comedy Theatre in Sarasota.

Phommachanh–a local ear, nose and throat doctor–placed in two recent comedy contests, McCurdy's Open Mic Challenge and Visani Comedy Theater's Last Comic Standing. Greco was a recent finalist in 102.5 the Bone's Last Comic Stranded competition at Side Splitters, where 24 of the area's top comics battled for a spot on Calta Cruise 13.

Tickets are available online here. VIP tables of six in the front of the venue are available for $75 and include a dozen drink tickets. All proceeds benefit the Mayors Feed the Hungry program. Gold Coast Eagle Distributing is located at 7051 Wireless Court, Sarasota, FL.

The event coincides with the 23rd Annual Giving Hunger the Blues music festival, set to take place on November 15 & 16 at the Sarasota Polo Club in Lakewood Ranch. This year's festival will be themed as a celebration of Woodstock, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this summer.
