I'm going to watch 8/22 Land Use meeting to just see how KVO and ass Bearden act. Bearden needs help. and now that his mentor lost, how will he respond. Cops called when he was at a precinct and harassing people. It's not over but at least KVO and Satcher are gone. Those were the 2 I was most keyed on as I live in Bayshore Gardens area and not up until 3026. Hackney was a no brainer. Surprised some thought to race against him. 32 years no complaints, no issues.
I am quite disappointed with Bradenton Times in NOT endorsing Heather Felton. She has nine years experience as a school teacher in Manatee County School system. She has spent many months over this past year studying the budget and operations of Manatee County Schools. She has resided in Manatee County well over 20 years, and both of her children have attended Manatee County Schools from first grade to graduation. She is a strong advocate for students, teachers and parents. She has received endorsement from teachers locally. Her opponent has NEVER taught in a school classroom anywhere. He is an outsider from a corporate background, NOT an educational institution background. I certainly hope Bradenton Times corrects this error in judgement. Ruth Lawler
District 1 Manatee Count School Board, it is clear to me that Heather Felton is the ONLY qualified candidate of the three, as she has NINE years of classroom teaching in Manatee County Public Schools. Her passion for quality education and for support of teachers, kids and parents is amazing. Ruth Lawler
It is sad that HT has let down our community by endorsing KVO. Apparently, developer donations are worth more than the community that they serve. After I started watching BOCC meetings in 2016, I sadly discovered that our local print paper was not always accurately covering meetings nor were they covering the most important topics discussed at the meetings. Neither were the local news channels. This was when we discovered TBT, who has ALWAYS accurately discussed the issues in our county, provided proof, and commentary on the issues. We love podcasts, especially when you discuss all the things that you can’t necessarily fit into the articles. We value TBT and we appreciate and applaud your efforts!
Disgusted by the amount of signage by the corrupt candidates at our polling location. Depressing to see citizens actually manning a tent for Culbreath. Disappointing to see and know that there are citizens who live in our community that are so out of touch with what has been happening at the hands of the developer commissioners.
I changed to the Sarasota Herald several years ago, primarily because they covered local sports and local news better than the Bradenton Herald.
Other than High School Football, that is no longer true.
Long story short, to control my BP, I never read anything in the A section, thus I missed their endorsement me of KVO.
Another nail on their coffin.
Personally, many of my neighbors, my massage therapist, and my barber have been informed, KVO AND SATCHER are BIG NO’S.
Garner and Metallo also are NO.
They all have reached out with the message!!
Hopefully, we make and impact.
Bye-Bye Pedicini and Beruff!
Surprise, surprise, all those attack ads, mailers, calls, and texts are from the same sources... the "investors" and campaign donors who own the puppet candidates elected through the manipulation by such hatchet men — so long as the voters continue to elect the puppets, more of the same... how much flooding and pollution will it take to get the voters to make the connection that who they elect will make the difference?
Well written, factual. But we keep re-electing R's like Will Robinson and Jim Boyd. These two have voted for every pre-emptive bill that has been proposed. These two consistently vote in favor of insurance companies and against consumer-based homeowners insurance reforms. These two consistently vote against transparency by adding public record exemptions year after year. These two voted to severely restrict the ability to file ethics law complaints. They voted to preempt any regulations that would require water breaks for outdoor workers like roofers, construction workers, farm workers, and landscapers. These two voted to make it harder to collect dues for some labor unions - teachers and nurses, but not other unions - police and fire. Whenever a local community comes up with a innovative initiative, on workforce housing for example, these two consistently vote to pre-empt. These two are influenced by the lobbyists that write the bills in Tallahassee. Vote accordingly.
I changed my affiliation. But the person trying to "rig" this election is Pedicini. By using the write-in loophole which closed the republican primary for SOE for half the voters in the county from voting in what is essentially a one party race and making it go to the general when you know the write-in never wins. That's "rigging". They used the write-in for District 3 and District 7 which was unnecessary because of a Democrat candidate, it closed the primary automatically. In my 30 years in Manatee County I never stressed over a primary as much as this one. Of course, I couldn't vote in the others because a Democrat. That is why I changed. We need better representatives that are independent of the developers.
Satcher is violating regulations as a candidate. You can't solicit within a certain distance from the polling place which sounds like he did by handing out a campaign letter and talking to voters inside this distance. He also is campaigning on topics that should not apply to the SOE who is supposed to be non-partisan. As a candidate he should only be inside the precinct to vote as a candidate, even though the SOE. This is one big cluster.
Thank you for your insight on our local government. This is an important conversation that the public should listen to, thankfully no one lost their life. This is the state of Manatee County Government. When was the last time that conditions of the dam even came up at a meeting? How is something as critical at the conditions of the dam not being discussed in front of the public? Sadly, we are no longer having any important conversations at BOCC meetings and haven’t in almost 2 years. There are NO presentations. There are NO real conversations. Almost EVERYTHING is on the consent agenda. Any commissioner (only Kruse) who wants to have dialog concerning issues important to citizens is immediately shut down.
People espouse the importance of home rule, but then destroy it in ways like this. These people are not able to decide how they live. Citizens united screwed us over and made it so a small percentage of the population can make decisions for the rest of us. That is not democracy.
