Steube to Run for Congress as Trump Ally

Posted
BRADENTON – First-term Florida Senator Greg Steube announced that he will seek the Distict 17 Congressional seat that is being vacated by fellow Republican Tom Rooney. The large, mostly rural, agricultural district includes Hardee, DeSoto, Charlotte, Okeechobee, Highlands and Glades counties, as well as parts of Polk and Sarasota counties.

Steube, 39, is a lifelong area resident, having graduated from Southeast High School, before college, a stint in the military, and then law school. He served in the Florida House for six years before leaving to run for the state Senate in 2016.

"As a conservative, pro-life, pro 2nd Amendment, anti-illegal immigration fighter for our Constitutional rights, I will proudly support President Trump and his agenda in Washington," said Steube in his campaign announcement.

Steube has spent most of his energy in the state legislature pushing NRA-backed bills that expand gun owner rights. His signature effort has been arming teachers in Florida public schools.
