30th Annual Migrant Education Awards Ceremony This Tuesday

Posted
BRADENTON – Twenty-five high school seniors and juniors will receive special recognition during the 30th Annual Migrant Education Awards Ceremony. It will take place on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 7 p.m. in Palmetto High School’s Auditorium, located at 1200 17th Street West in Palmetto. The ceremony will honor students and their families who have participated in the School District of Manatee County’s Migrant Academic Programs. The teens have overcome major obstacles, in order to achieve academic success.

This year’s guest speaker is Laraine Batista, who is retiring from the School District. She has spent 18 years as the Migrant Home School Liaison for the Migrant Program. Prior to that, Mrs. Batista was an ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Aide for five years. Over the years, she has encouraged students to graduate; and helped them with postsecondary education plans and apply for college scholarships. For more information, please contact Kate Bloomquist, Migrant Coordinator at 941-751-6550 ext. 2333.
