5th annual Pirate Fest is this Saturday

Posted

Pirate Fest is a free family event for all ages. The event will take place on Ninth Street West in front of McKechnie Field from 10-12:30 p.m., prior to the team’s 1:05 p.m. game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Great seats are still available and can be obtained by visiting the McKechnie Field box office during Pirate Fest, calling 1-877-893-2827, or online at Pirates.com.

Ninth Street West will close for this event. See below.

Pirates fans will have the opportunity to meet and get autographs from numerous Pirates players (although get there early because the players will need to begin pre-game warm-ups). In addition, fans can test their arm strength with the speed pitch while the kids jump around in the Mixon Fruit Farms bounce house.

Fans can also put their image into McKechnie Field with a free souvenir postcard, and many local companies will be on hand with giveaways and games. And don’t miss a special appearance by Mote Marine Lab & Aquarium’s Gilly the Shark!

Road closure info
The closure of Ninth Street West from 13th-17th avenues west is scheduled for 8-2 p.m. Saturday. North- or south-bound motorists are encouraged to use 14th Street West or First Street/U.S. 301 on Saturday instead of Ninth Street West. Electronic message boards will be placed at both ends of the road closure to detour traffic. Off-duty police officers will be stationed at both ends of the detour.

Motorists should also be aware that Sixth Street West between 13th-17th avenues west was closed when Rogers Garden Elementary School opened last year.  The parking lot at the Boys & Girls Club may still be accessed from Sixth Street West (off 17th Avenue West). The Pirates are responsible for any fees associated with off-duty police, barricades, message boards, clean up and man power for this event.
