On Thursday, May 21, Art Center Sarasota will hold an opening reception for four new exhibits that will grace its walls, halls and floors through June 26.
The exhibits include curated contemporary visual art from one of Sarasota's international sister cities; a collaborative project from Netherlands-based designer and journalist Noa Haim; a project that transforms art donated to Goodwill Manasota into "new masterpieces"; and an all-media peer juried exhibition.
The sister city of Sarasota, Perpignan of France, will boast having the work of 11 of its artists on display in Gallery 1's exhibit, "Confluence: France". Lisa Berger, Art Center Sarasota's executive director, says, "As the definition of the word ‘Confluence’ suggests, the intention of these exhibitions is the connection of places and the gathering of people."
The display is the second installment in a series of "Confluence" exhibitions, which strive to show the work of artists from the regions that Sarasota's Sister Cities reside in.

Another international exhibition - "Collective Paper Aesthetics" in Gallery 2 - will feature the work of Jerusalem native, designer and journalist Noa Haim. Based in the Netherlands, Haim's high repute as a designer draws from her independent practice (which the exhibition is named after), as well as receiving a master's degree in advanced architecture from the Berlage Institute in 2004.
Per the Art Center, "The participatory aspect of Collective Paper Aesthetics encourages creativity as well as strenghtening the bond between the different players within the workplace."
An exhibit with foundations closer to home than the ones to be featured in Galleries 1 and 2, "MASHterpieces" is a project that features the works of 30 selected artists, who have used art found at local Goodwill stores to create new art "in their own creative style or wherever their imagination takes them," says Berger.
"MASHterpieces is a collaboration between ACS, Goodwill Manasota and ThisWeekinSarasota.com; a portion of all sales of the artwork will be donated back to Goodwill.

The fourth display, "I'll Be The Judge", is a peer-juried exhibit that is open to all artists of all mediums. Everyone who submits artwork will vote on all submissions to decide which ones will be on display, with the top votes earning prizes.
Admission is free. The opening reception is from 5-7 p.m; the exhibits will run until June 26, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m Monday through Saturday.
