BRADENTON - ArtSlam, Bradenton's annual celebration of local artists and performers, will take place this Saturday in downtown's Old Main Street. The event will be in its fifth consecutive showing.
Every year, artists show up at ArtSlam to show off their creativity, and the festival offers several channels for different forms of that creativity, including art exhibits, live music, graffiti artistry, theatrics, facepainting, and even circus juggling and stilt-walking.
Every ArtSlam has a special focus, and this year will spotlight student art and creativity, with kids and teachers from Manatee County schools putting their creative projects on display.
Audience members also don't have to be resigned to spectating: Realize Bradenton executive director Johnette Isham has said that ArtSlam "is a family-friendly festival with plenty of opportunities for audiences to become part of the creative process."
A social media photo contest is also being held, with promises of an ice cream party at Corwin's for the selected winners. Participants must share a photo using the hashtag #ARTslam15 on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook; Realize Bradenton will select the seven most unique photos.
The festival will go from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. More information, including creative team descriptions of students' projects and a full line-up of musical guests, can be found here.
