Arts and Entertainment Tony Sands to Bring Sinatra Show to Manatee Players

Posted

SARASOTA — Tony Sands has appeared on the stages of Atlantic City, Reno, Lake Tahoe and other casino towns  as Ol’ Blue Eyes, paying tribute to the legendary music of Frank Sinatra. Sands brings his multimedia solo show, It Was a Very Good Year, to the Manatee Players Theatre on Wednesday, February 25 at 2 p.m.

“It’s not just somebody going out there and doing his music, but we tell a narrated story, with multimedia projections at six different points in his career,” said Sands.

Sands says the show tells Sinatra's career story in a sort of chronological homage.

“We start in the big band era and we end up at Madison Square Garden, the time he came out of retirement. We take you through his career, his saloon songs, the songs of his movie career, we do the Rat Pack era and we end it with a song called ‘Put Your Dreams Away’ that he used in a television series he had in the ’50s.”
