Braden River Pirates Defeat Palmetto 64-56 In Opening Round of Smoothies Classic Basketball Tournament

BRADENTON--Braden River opened the ”Smoothie King Classic“ basketball tournament with a 64-56 victory over Palmetto Tuesday afternoon at Bradenton Christian High School’s gym. Four Pirates scored in double figures led by Trevon Young with 13 points. Terrance Mann poured in 23 points for Palmetto.

Tre Bryant and Jeff Casseus each scored 11 points for Braden River while Tommy Bernhardt added 10 in a balanced Pirate attack that has lifted Braden River to a 7-2 record so far this season.

Palmetto took a 16-15 lead after the first quarter. Terrance Mann scored 15 of his game high 23 points in the first half. Braden River came back to grab a 33-30 margin at halftime.


The Tigers outscored the Pirates 16-9 in the third quarter to pull ahead 46-41 heading into the final eight minutes.

Braden River executed it’s ball control offense to near perfection in the fourth quarter putting 23 points on the scoreboard and holding Palmetto (2-4) to just 10.

The Pirates will play its second round game Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.

The ”Smoothie King Classic“ invited eight boys and eight girls basketball teams from the area including one from New York to play in the fourth annual event held at Bradenton Christian High School. The tourney runs through Thursday night when both the boys and girls championship games will be played.
