Bradenton council insults voters

Posted

Dear Editor:

This is really rich.

On Jan. 27, the Bradenton City Council voted 3-2 to oppose Amendment 4, the Nov. 2 ballot measure to give the voters a veto over approved amendments to local Comprehensive Land Use Plans.

Their stated reason? Amendment 4 ”will further disenfranchise millions of Florida's already-fatigued electorate.“

What? Giving the people the right to vote on approved Comprehensive Land Use Plan amendments will disenfranchise us?

Disenfranchise means taking away our right to vote. How does giving us the right to vote take away our right to vote?

And we’re already all too fatigued to vote?

Maybe the politicians are the ones who are too tired.

Evidently they’re too tired to think clearly or to be honest about the fact that the real reason they want us to reject Amendment 4 is that it would spoil the game they now have with the big developers who bankroll their campaigns.

How stupid do they think we are?
