JUPITER – The Bradenton Marauders, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Pittsburgh
Pirates, dropped a tough 1-0 decision to the Jupiter Hammerheads at
Roger Dean Stadium Tuesday night.
Quinton Miller got the start for Bradenton and turned in the second quality start in three nights for the Marauders, tossing six innings of one run, five hit baseball. He allowed only two hits after the first inning and both those runners were either caught stealing or picked off.
It was the first inning that did Miller and the Marauders in, however. After giving up singles to the first two batters he faced, both Jose Duarte and Jeff Dominguez executed a double steal. Miller then forced a groundout from Jaime Ortiz that plated Duarte from third. The one run would be enough.
Jason Erickson was also solid out of the bullpen for Bradenton, tossing two innings of shutout baseball. It was the second night in a row the Marauders needed just one reliever.
Offensively the Marauders gave themselves a chance in the top of the ninth. With two outs Jarek Cunningham singled up the middle before Evan Chambers took a walk. Both were stranded on base.
Miller took the loss to fall to 1-2. The win was credited to Jose Alvarez and AJ Ramos got the save, his second. The Marauders fall to 6-7 while Jupiter goes up to 5-8.
The Marauders continue their six game road trip Wednesday at Fort Myers with a 7:05 start. Brett Lorin takes the ball against Matt Schuld. Radio coverage begins at 6:50 on WTMY 1280-AM. For more information visit
