BRADENTON – Nominated by Sergeant Anthony Cerniglia – On November, 10, 2014, Officer Lee Cosens was on patrol in the area of the 800 block of 15th Street East. He was approached by a concerned citizen and informed of male subject that was having a seizure behind a nearby residence. Officer Cosens located the male sitting down and observed that he appeared to be conscious; however, he was not responsive.
Officer Cosens then checked him for a pulse and found that it was extremely faint and noted that he was not breathing. Officer Cosens then placed the male on the ground and immediately called Bradenton Police Department’s Dispatch Center and requested the assistance of E.M.S. He then started administering the life saving technique of C.P.R. A short time later the male began to breathe slowly and his pulse increased. E.M.S. personnel arrived and continued to render medical assistance and eventually transported the male to Manatee Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
The quick actions Officer Cosens most certainly saved the life of the male. His actions also demonstrated his commitment and dedication to the citizens of the City of Bradenton, so it is with pleasure that Chief of Police Michael Radzilowski named Officer Cosens the Bradenton Police Department’s Officer of the Month for December 2014.”
