Captain Favorite's Weekend Fishing Forecast: May 5, 2016

BRADENTON – The 33rd Annual Crosthwait Memorial Fishing Tournament will be held May 13-15 at the Bradenton Yacht Club. FWC launched a kids art contest celebrating mothers and shorebirds and sea turtle nesting season began May 1. Small craft advisories may persist though the weekend.

  • Beginning today - just in time for Mother’s Day - the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and Audubon Florida are launching an art contest for kids to celebrate moms and raise awareness about beach-nesting shorebirds and seabirds in Florida. The winning drawing will be announced on Mother’s Day and made into a sign to help protect important shorebird nesting sites. The winner will also receive a prize pack, including family admission to Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary or the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey and more
  • Sea turtle nesting season begins in May on many Florida beaches, including the sandy beaches of northwest Florida. The season lasts through the end of October and is the critical time when people can help keep sea turtles and hatchlings safe.

Winds and seas will increase to small craft exercise caution levels through Thursday. Winds and seas will then look to remain at or below headline criteria throughout the weekend.
