BRADENTON – Getting people into housing is the goal, Mayor Wayne Poston said before Wednesday night’s City Council meeting.
The council approved the Community Development Block Grant May 1, 2010-April 20, 2011 Annual Action Plan on a 4-0 vote in the consent agenda.
”It’s important because we’re getting people in housing who haven’t gotten into housing,“ he said.
The council also approved 4-0 a funding agreement with the Southwest Florida Water Management District to install flood markers.
City Attorney Bill Lisch said that while the city deeded land to United Community Centers, there was a reverter clause in the March 2007 deal that said the city would get the land back if a center wasn’t completed in 36 months.
They won’t have the Certificate of Occupancy in time, Lisch said. They need an agreement that the city won’t exercise the reverter so they can get the loan documents signed.
The council approved the request on a 3-0 vote, with Councilwoman Marianne Barnebey recusing herself.
Ward 1 City Councilman Gene Gallo was on an excused absence, Poston said.
