City of Palmetto City Commission Meeting Agenda Results April 18, 2011

PALMETTO --At the Regular Palmetto City Commission Meeting last night, board members approved, 4-1 with Brian Williams opposing, a development of 11-12 single detached housing units located at 4009 11th St. Court W. on a 1.66 acre of land. Several stipulations were added to the original design, including the removal of a drive-way because of possible safety issues with traffic coming off the Humpback Bridge. The commission also approved the first read for a new sign ordinance.

3. REQUEST FOR CODE ENFORCEMENT LIEN REDUCTION: Jim Freeman (Passed with Lancaster and Cornwall opposing)

  • The subject property is located at 412 20 Avenue. The violations included open storage issues and debris littering the property including mattresses auto parts and a motor vehicle frame. The former owners John E Matheny Jr. and Jill Ann Matheny have said that they can’t go on the property to correct the problem because it is in the process of foreclosure. Owners are considered repeat offenders. At a fine of $500 per day commencing January 10, 2010 the current city lien totals over $35,000. REMAX Alliance Group is offering $1,500 to satisfy the utility portion of the lien.
  • The board motioned to approve the lien at 15 percent for the amount of $6,691.91


4. 1ST READ ORDINANCE 2011-12: Sign Ordinance (Unanimously approved)

  • This ordinance would amend the sign code and establish new regulations for the interchange intersection on 10th Street in and around the U.S. 41/301 intersection between approximately Third Avenue and Haben Boulevard.
  • Action Request Motion to schedule a public hearing for Ordinance No 2011-12 for April, 18 2011.


5. PUBLIC HEARING ORDINANCE NO 2011-12: Sign Ordinance (Unanimously continued to May 2, 2011)

  • This ordinance would amend the sign code and establish new regulations for the interchange intersection on 10th Street in and around the U.S. 41/301 intersection between approximately Third Avenue and Haben Boulevard.
  • Action Request Motion to continue the public hearing for Ordinance No. 2011-12 to May 2, 2011.


6. 2ND READ AND PUBLIC HEARING ORDINANCE NO 2011-08 (Unanimously approved)

  • An ordinance of the city approving and amending the zoning to the planned development housing district for approximately 1.66 acres of development housing generally located at 4009 11th Street Court West Palmetto.
  • Action Request Motion to adopt Ordinance No 2011-08


7. 2ND READ AND PUBLIC HEARING ORDINANCE NO 2011-09 (Approved 4-1 Williams opposing)

  • An ordinance amending ordinance no. 06-911 to approve an amended general development plan for twelve single-family detached dwelling units generally located at 4009 11th St. Ct. W., Palmetto on approximately 1.66 acres and located in PDH providing for repeal of ordinances in conflict.
  • Action Request Motion to adopt Ordinance No 2011-09
