PALMETTO – The Palmetto City Commission approved plans for the Community Redevelopment Agency to begin negotiations with local architects in an effort to revamp both Sutton and Lamb parks. The plans will take a survey conducted by the CRA into account, and allow for public input at a meeting on July 14, 2010. The PCC also approved plans for a reclaimed water project, improvements to Haben Blvd. and palmetto estuary habitat restoration to remove exotic species.

3. Budget Resolution No. 2011-17: Haben Blvd LAP Agreement: Record CRA funding of the expense budget
- FOOT awarded the City LAP funding for the Intersection Improvements at Haben Blvd Project. On December 13, 2010 the City received a notice to proceed from FOOT in the amount of $367,000 At the April 18, 2011 Commission meeting a contract totaling $381,409.30 was approved for Gator Grading and Paving Inc.
- The FY 2011 CRA budget includes $553,000 for the Haben Project. The CRA will transfer $14,409.30 to cover the difference between the contract and the grant as well as $57,211.70 in the form of a 15 contingency to cover any unforeseen project expenses that do not change the scope of the project. Any unused funds will be returned to the CRA at project completion CRA will submit a resolution reallocating the savings from the Haben project towards other projects.

B.) Public Works: First Amendment to the Southwest Florida Water Management District Reclaimed Water ASR Project (L608) to extend the agreement to June 30, 2014. (Pulled, unanimously approved)
- The City of Palmetto is currently pursuing the use of Reclaimed Water Aquifer Storage Recovery ASR as a means to better manage the existing reuse system and maximize reclaimed water supplies. This project will also insure that sufficient reclaimed water is available for reuse customers facilitate continued expansion of the City’s reuse system and offset potable water usage typically used for irrigation.
- On January 24, 2007 SWFWMD and the City entered into an Agreement for the design construction testing and operational permitting for the ASR well Funding was approved by the Basin Board for 50 percent of the total project cost.
- The project has been on hold due to processes being developed to resolve the mobilization of arsenic in the aquifer SWFWMD and staff is proposing to revise the project timelines and extend the contract period as outlined in the attached Amendment.
C.) Southwest Florida Water Management district Cooperation Agreement for the Palmetto Estuary Preserve Habitat Restoration Project Phase II (W364)
- The DPW is working with SWFWMD and SWIMM to remove exotic species and enhance the estuarine flows of the preserve and to provide some treatment enhancement for CarrDrain a major outfall for the city. The design and work will be performed by the district and the city will provide dump trucks to haul the material away performed by the district.
- This work will enhance the estuary and make it a more attractive habitat
- The only cost that will be incurred is the use of our truck and driver which is already budgeted and will not require any new dollar.
