Clinton and Christie Barnstorm State With Crist and Scott

Posted

BRADENTON — With early voting underway, Governor Rick Scott and his opponent, former Governor Charlie Crist, set out to try and rally turnout on Monday, each armed with national figures in their respective parties. Crist had former President Bill Clinton, while Scott brought Republican New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on the trail.

Christie has been a big Scott supporter both in terms of helping him fund-raise and stumping for him on the campaign trail. Clinton has been equally supportive of the former Republican turned Democrat Charlie Crist. Early voting opened Saturday in Florida.

Scott has honed in on Crist's policy plans this week, attacking him as "all talk and no action," saying he hasn't laid out a vision for the state if elected.

"There's nothing he's for," Scott said. "I've had people tell me that when they tried to come in and talk to him about policy, he'd say, 'I don't do policy.' He had no ideas."

Scott plugged his Florida 2020 platform and said Crist has offered no sort of comparable vision.

Clinton told Floridians that their state was in a position to see economic growth and that if they wanted to grow the economy from the middle class out, with the greatest chance of the working poor being able to ascend to the middle class, they needed to send Rick Scott packing.

The latest polls still show the race to be close to even, though Crist's small lead has opened to just over 3 percent, eclipsing the margin of error for the first time. Conventional wisdom says Democratic turnout – typically low in non-presidential elections – will determine the outcome. Crist's team says that they are encouraged by the high number of Democrats who have already participated via vote by mail, and say that trend bodes well for their chances on Nov. 4 .
