Clinton Foundation Was Subpoenaed by State Department

Posted
WASHINGTON – State Department investigators issued a subpoena to the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation last fall seeking documents related to projects that may have required government approval while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State, reported the Washington Post on Thursday.

The subpoena also asked for documents related to Huma Abedin, the longtime Clinton aide who also drew criticism to Clinton because of her ties as a lobbyist who did work for the company behind the Keystone XL tar sand pipeline.

For six months in 2012, Abedin was simultaneously employed by the State Department, the Clinton Foundation, in Hillary Clinton’s personal office, and at a private consulting firm that enjoyed close ties to the Clintons.

The full scope and status of the inquiry, which was conducted by the State Department’s inspector general, is not yet clear, according to the report. The post reported that there was no indication that the IG is looking at Hillary individually.

Clinton continues to be plagued with the controversy surrounding her use of a private email server, which is under a separate investigation by the same IG office. There is also a parallel FBI investigation into whether her system illegally compromised national security.

No questions on either on any of the issues were raised in Thursday's debate.
