While the building is closed, there will be significant changes made to the layout, all of which are designed to improve the patron experience and support community needs.
The narrow aisles between the rows of shelving will be spaced to be more accessible (ADA compliant), and the building’s alarm system will be upgraded to include visual, as well as audible alerts. The public computer terminals will be transferred down to the library’s first floor, and the library’s various collections will be rearranged to support user needs. For instance, all materials for young people (ages 0-18) will be grouped nearby one another.

Early in February, while the library is closed, a temporary computer lab will be opened to the public at 305 15th Street West (the old Supervisor of Elections office) in downtown Bradenton. This “pop up” center will provide Internet access for patrons filling out job and social services applications and forms, taking school tests, etc. The computers will NOT be available for general “web surfing.”
During the closure period, reference by telephone and e-mail is expected to continue uninterrupted, and the library’s wide range of online resources should not be affected in any way. The book drop at the Central Library will however, be closed, and patrons are welcome to return their materials to any of the county’s five branch locations.
All of the staff of the Central Library will continue working during the shutdown period, and will be relocated to various branch libraries and/or the downtown computer lab. We encourage patrons affected by this temporary closure to visit one or more of the other five branch library locations.
We look forward to these important renovations and to welcoming our customers back to an improved downtown library!
