Also in attendance were Florida Senator Mike Bennett, Manatee County Commissioners Donna Hayes, Carol Whitmore and John Chappie.
The event provided an opportunity for GCBX members to network and give back to the community during the holiday season. Each year the GCBX Chairman chooses the charitable organization(s) that will be the beneficiary of the GCBX Holiday Party. This year, Chairman Jarvis chose to adopt all of the children at HOPE Family Services Shelter and the Manatee County Food Bank. According to Lem Sharp, GCBX Chairman and President of Mills-Gilbane in Lakewood Ranch, ”Although the Construction Industry has been hit the hardest during this recession, we saw such generous giving from our GCBX members to continue their proud tradition of supporting local charities and the local community“.
Over 300 toys were collected to benefit HOPE Family Services, a non-profit domestic violence shelter. Laurel Lynch, Executive Director of HOPE Family Services said, ”The outpouring of support from the members and guests of the Gulf Coast Builder Exchange is always so amazing. Even in these challenging financial times, the members of GCBX managed to give to the children at HOPE Family Services. We salute the members of GCBX and take great pride in living in a community that cares about victims of domestic violence and their children“.
Also, barrels of food along with over $200 in cash donations were collected to assist the Manatee County Food Bank.CFRE International has named Tracy Vanderneck as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE). The Need:
Nobel Prize Winner Pearl Buck once said: If you want to understand today, you have to search yesterday. For twenty eight years, the Manatee County Clerk of the Circuit Court’s Department of Historical Resources and the Manatee County Historical Commission has promoted the study of history by sponsoring the Annual Manatee County History Fair. It is able to produce the event because there are area citizens who also recognize the value of history education and endorse the effort by volunteering to judge at the fair or sponsor a student award.
This year, scores of Manatee County public, private and home school students in grades 6 - 12 will participate and volunteers are needed to evaluate exhibits, media and performances. There are even two categories that can be judged in the comfort of your home. As a volunteer judge, you will have an opportunity to see first-hand the impressive and creative accomplishments of young students. You do not need to have a Ph.D. to judge at this event! Training will be held at Manatee Village Historical Park, 1404 Manatee Avenue East, Bradenton, 34208, on January 25 or 28, 2012. Volunteers unable to participate in one of the two workshops will receive guidance in February on judging days: February 11 (Historical Performances and Documentaries) or February 24 (Exhibit Boards). Preregistration is necessary.
To preregister for judging or for how to sponsor an award: If you would like to help judge this competition contact Melissa Porter, Education Coordinator, at Manatee Village Historical Park, at (941) 741-4075 or melissa.porter@manateeclerk.com to preregister for a training workshop. You will receive an application and schedule of judging dates, times and locations. Guidelines are available upon request for any individual or group that would like to contribute financially by becoming a Friend of History Fair or sponsoring various awards.
