During the ball, De Soto's 2014-2015 Queen will be crowned, and the newest Hernando de Soto will be invested. Featuring dancing, music and other entertainment, the event will last from 6:30 p.m. to midnight.
Hosted by the Hernando De Soto Historical Society, the Grand Parade will start at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The parade will boast over 150 entries, with marching bands, floats, bead-tossing by the Hernando De Soto Crewe, and live music among the festivities. Grand Marshalling this year will be local singer/songwriter and American Idol phenom Sam Woolf.
The parade will begin at 6:30; the route can be viewed here.
15 minutes before the parade starts, The DeSoto 5K Run will speed from Manatee High School on 9th Avenue West, through downtown Bradenton, to the school district's administrative building at 215 Manatee Avenue West. The run will be chip timed; both walkers and runners are welcome.
