Blake Medical Center’s Diagnostic Imaging Department  has been awarded a three-year accreditation in computed tomography (CT), Nuclear Medicine and MRI as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.

”Obtaining the ACR accreditations represents Blake Medical Center’s commitment to clinical excellence through high quality practice standards,“ says Robert Stouffer, Director of Diagnostic Imaging & Radiology. ”It shows that our facility meets their requirements for equipment quality control, quality assurance, image superiority, and continuing education for staff and physicians. We are committed to delivering quality, safe patient care that our consumers can trust.“

CT scanning – sometimes called CAT scanning – is a non-invasive imaging procedure that helps physicians diagnose and tailor treatments for various medical conditions. Nuclear Medicine is a branch of medical imaging that uses small amounts of radioactive material, injected into the patient, to diagnose and treat a variety of diseases, including many types of cancers, heart disease, and certain other abnormalities within the body. MRI is a non-invasive imaging procedure that utilizes magnetic fields to produce anatomical images of internal body parts to help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.

Public invited to Saturday Lincoln Splash Ground Grand Opening
Palmetto’s first ever Multicultural Day to follow at noon

Palmetto’s long-awaited splash park will open on Saturday, March 24 during a grand opening ceremony of Lincoln Park Splash Ground, scheduled for 9 a.m.

The new splash ground at 715 17th St. East in Palmetto features geysers, jets, interactive equipment, sprinklers and water aerators. The splash ground will be open to the public:

á        Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 pm. from March 25 through May 27, 2012
á        Wednesdays from 1 – 5 p.m. and Fridays through Sundays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. from May 30 through June 10, 2012
á        Tuesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. from June 12 through Aug. 19, 2012 (Closed on the Fourth of July)

The splash ground is the culmination a series of projects over the past five years to improve Lincoln Park paid for using Community Development Block Grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The grant also went to construct picnic pavilions, a new restroom and renovate existing restrooms; to improve field lighting and to install security lighting at the Lincoln Park soccer fields; and to upgrade playground equipment and fencing around the park.

”We’re very pleased with the finished product and I think the children of Palmetto are going to love it,“ said Manatee Parks and Recreation Director Cindy Turner. ”It’s going to be a great place for families to come to have fun and to cool off when the weather’s hot.“

Manatee County Neighborhood Services Department applied more than $1.7 million in CDBG dollars to construct the splash grounds and park improvements. Manatee County Parks and Recreation will staff the splash ground. Manatee County entered into a lease use and maintenance agreement with the City of Palmetto in July of 2000.

”It’s turned into a gorgeous neighborhood park with multiple amenities that’s rare elsewhere in the County,“ said Suzie Dobbs, Manatee’s Community Development Manager who oversees CDBG funds.

At noon the same day, the City of Palmetto Community Redevelopment Agency will host the first ever Multicultural Festival, a family-friendly event including live music, rides, social activities and food booths. That event is also free and open to the public.
