On Wednesday, April 20th, Manatee Glens’ Rape Crisis Services will hold a Sexual Assault Awareness Day Rally in observance of National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The rally will take place at Bradenton City Centre, 1005 Barcarrota Boulevard from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The program will start promptly at noon. The goal of the Rally is to raise awareness about sexual violence and what we can do to stop it. This year’s theme is ”It’s timeÉto get involved.“
Survivors will speak out about their experiences through artwork, posters, painted denim jeans, and quilts. Officials from Manatee Glens, State Attorney’s Office, Manatee Sheriff’s Office and other organizations will join in the rally and be available to answer questions about sexual assault crimes, steps to report the crimes and the steps to heal from the assault.
“ Mary Ruiz, President/CEO of Manatee Glens said, ”Sexual violence doesn’t just impact the victim. It impacts the victim’s family, friends and co-workers too. We all have a role to play in prevention. Working together, we can raise awareness, change attitudes and help prevent sexual violence in our community and all of Florida’s communities.“
Founded in 1955, Manatee Glens helps families in crisis with mental health and addiction services and is the leading private, nonprofit hospital and outpatient health practice. We specialize in hard-to- treat adult and childhood disorders as well as family care.
Webtivity Design Solutions (http://www.webtivitydesigns.com),
a Bradenton-based internet marketing firm, was selected to help CMHS
integrate their updated branding and improved messaging into a 40-page,
Content Management System (CMS) website. Their new website required the
capability to effectively communicate news and events to current
students, parents, teachers and staff, promote the school to potential
students and parents, stay in touch with alumni, and connect with the
media and community at large. The CMS needed to have the capability to
”stage“ content so students and staff can create content and then pass
it to website administrators who approve it before allowing it to be
posted on the live website. They also required ”speedbumps“ so whenever
users are clicking on a link that leads to an external website they are
prompted they are leaving the Cardinal Mooney website.
With the
project expectations came an aggressive timeline; everything had to be
completed to meet their fundraising campaign kickoff. The Webtivity
Designs team was able to successfully coordinate and deliver the project
on time for CMHS staff. Steve Christie, Principal at CMHS said after
the website launch, ”To everyone who has helped us create a vibrant new
website – I thank you. This website is something for which you can all
be proud.“

Fifty years ago, a group of parents were inspired to provide a Christ-centered education for their children and the doors of Bradenton Christian School (BCS) opened. The endurance of those first families has been graciously blessed by God. BCS has grown from a small first through fifth grade elementary school in the 1960’s into a fully accredited preschool age 3 through grade 12 institution that prepares the hearts and minds of God's children.
This does not happen in isolation but through community partnerships and support. BCS invites the community to join us April 15-16 as we celebrate God's gifts of endurance, encouragement and hope (Romans 15:4) as we look back on 50 years of Christian education in the Bradenton-Sarasota area. Anna Maria Island Moose Lodge recently collected items for Hope Family Services and the Domestic Violence Shelter in Manatee County. Mike Johnson owner of Spirit Movers graciously donated a Storage Pod that was placed in the RE/MAX Alliance Group, Manatee Office parking lot, to hold the many items collected. Items were distributed to the Shelter as well as the Hope Chest Thrift Store located at 1215 8th Ave. W. in downtown Bradenton. Hope Family Services offers a safe place to get on your feet, along with counseling, housing, food, and schooling for the children. The domestic violence shelter houses as many as 40 women and there their children, the director, staff and volunteers were very appreciative of the items that were provided by the drive.
Sandra Zenzel, Women of the Moose – Recorder, was instrumental in bringing this all together, while visiting recently with the director of the Shelter; ”It was a very enlightening visit.“ said Sandra ”A lot was learned about the services provided to the women and children, such as counseling and assistance to get them back on their feet.“ With Sandra’s need to help and the support of Ernie Casali, AMI Moose Administrator, along with Barry Grooms with RE/MAX Alliance Group and the overwhelming support of the community, this drive was a huge success! Everyone involved, should stand up and take a bow, you earned it. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your support is very much appreciated!
