SARASOTA – The Argus Foundation (
ArgusFoundation.org), a nonprofit organization dedicated to joining business leaders from diverse industries and leveraging their talents and experience to benefit the community, contributed $1,000 to The Lightning Foundation during its Meet the Minds event, where Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik spoke.
Over 140 attendees gathered on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the
Hyatt Regency Sarasota to hear the soon-to-be part-time Sarasota resident Vinik as he told the story behind how he came to own the Tampa Bay Lightning and discussed hockey, business and the redevelopment of the City of Tampa. Jeff also shared his philosophy for life, ”be bold but not too bold.“
The donation to
The Lightning Foundation, the charitable arm of the Tampa Bay Lightning, will benefit the Foundation’s many programs and initiatives. Unchanged from the past four seasons, a total of $2,050,000 will be handed out to worthy community causes during the regular 2015-16 season.
”Jeff is a true entrepreneur, and we are thrilled he was able to join us in Sarasota,“ says Keith Mercier, Argus board member and regional vice president at
Bouchard Insurance. ”Corporate culture starts at the top, and it is our privilege to give back to the community and The Lightning Foundation, an organization close to Jeff’s heart.
Vinik, a cheerleader for the Tampa Bay region, recently
announced that his redevelopment of 40 acres around Amalie Arena will become the world’s first health- and wellness-focused city district, dedicated to the well-being of employees, students, residents, tenants and guests expected to live, work and play in the area.
”With this project, we’re not looking for a quick pay off,“ says Vinik. ”We want to benefit the downtown region and Tampa. A building is worthless if it doesn’t have the amenities people are looking for, and for people to want to live there, they need to have a good experience around the clock.“
