Community Spotlight: Yellow Strawberry Cut-a-thon Event Assists Oak Park School

Posted

SARASOTA – Yellow Strawberry (YellowStrawberryHair.com), a boutique salon in Sarasota and Manatee counties, hosted its 2nd annual cut-a-thon event last weekend to benefit Oak Park School, the school for special needs in the Sarasota County School district that serves students close to 300 students from prekindergarten to age 22.

During the all-day event, 28 stylists donated their time to give haircuts for free, and participants were encouraged to make a donation of $20. The salon raised $3,000 and gave 46 haircuts throughout the day.

”We are extremely grateful for this partnership with Yellow Strawberry,“ says Edwina Oliver, principal of Oak Park School. ”This event helps us enhance additional events for our staff and initiatives for students that our normal district funding could not normally support. It helps us meet those needs in a fun and loving way and allows our families to come together.“

Yellow Strawberry holds many nonprofit fundraisers throughout the year. The boutique salon has worked with numerous local charities, including American Business Women's Association, Asolo Repertory Theatre, Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota County, Family Network on Disabilities of Manatee/Sarasota, First Step of Sarasota, Florida Winefest and Auction, Gimme Shelter Pet Adoption, Habitat for Humanity Sarasota, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, Satchel’s Last Resort, Selah Freedom and YMCA Foundation of Sarasota, among others.

”With this cut-a-thon event, we really wanted to touch the lives of the children and young adults at Oak Park School in a positive way while supporting our community,“ says Richard Weintraub, co-owner and master stylist of over 40 years. ”We host events like this constantly to give back to the community. If you have the time and the will, I feel it’s everyone’s responsibility to give back.“
