County To Present Workshop on Coyote Problem December 9th

MANATEE--Coyotes have become a problem in Manatee County. Residents of Cortez have complained of an overrun of coyotes since October which have caused the deaths of many neighborhood pets in the area. On December 9th, the Village of Cortez will hold a workshop presented by the Manatee County Department of Agriculture and Resource Conservation on dealing with the coyote problem.

Lisa Hickey, a certified Florida Master Naturalist Instructor for Manatee County, will make the presentation on the good, bad and the ugly of coyote behavior in the county at the Old Schoolhouse December 9th beginning at 7 p.m. Topics to be discussed include: Why are coyotes in Florida or Manatee County? Coyotes and human interface on the farms and in the backyards, coyote attack statistics and general information on coyote characteristics and behavior.

Representatives from the Department of Public Safety, Sheriff’s Department and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will also be on hand to answer questions. For more information visit the Manatee County Extension Service website by clicking here or call 941-722-4524.
