MANATEE-- CSX Transportation’s railroad tie replacement project will cause a number of railroad crossings in Manatee County to be closed for a week to ten days beginning November 1. Chad Butzow, the county’s deputy director of field operations services reported the crossings to be shut down at a coordination meeting with county and city fire and police officials at the Public Works building Friday morning.
CSX will be using a high production, mechanized assembly line process to replace railroad ties on tracks beginning in south county at 44th Avenue E and moving north toward the Hillsborough County line.
Each crossing will be closed for approximately one week for the replacement of railroad ties. Once that is complete, the replacement of asphalt and concrete to the crossing may take an additional couple of days before the crossing is re-opened to traffic.
An official closure schedule is still being finalized by CSX. The County will notify the public as soon as they receive it from the railroad.
