DeSantis Appoints Moms for Liberty Co-founder to Ethics Commission

Posted

TALLAHASSEE — On Wednesday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Tina Descovich, co-founder of the controversial group Moms for Liberty, to the Florida Commission on Ethics.

The nine-member ethics commission investigates alleged breaches of public trust by elected and appointed officials, along with state employees. Descovich was previously elected to the Brevard County School Board in 2016.

Moms for Liberty was founded by Descovich and two other Florida women, including Sarasota School Board Chair Bridget Ziegler, whom DeSantis endorsed during her campaign. The group initially focused on fighting against COVID-19 restrictions but quickly became a major player in national Republican politics.

DeSantis spoke at Moms for Liberty events in Tampa last year, and again in Philadelphia, earlier this year. The Republican governor also appeared on the group's podcast this summer to discuss his presidential bid.

Moms for Liberty has been labeled an "extremist" organization by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The organization claims that in addition to harassment of community members, the group pushes anti-LGBTQ misinformation while trying to remove diverse and inclusive material from school curriculums.

Of course he'd find the most vitriolic person possible, with their own wave of media sensationalism... Because he needs help with his marketing and of course he still thinks this hateful BS is a good strategy.

I hate with these awful people are doing to my state.

Please ignore the meaning of ethics in the title. It really means "Political Correctness of the Right" for that is truly what the so-called Florida Ethics Commission now has become. They wouldn't recognize an "ethic" if they sat on one!
