BRADENTON – Days after issuing a call specifically for the blood of O Positive and O Negative donors, not-for-profit organization OneBlood issued a press release Thursday stating donors of all blood types are now critically needed to help restock the supplies of hospitals.
"The blood supply has reached extremely low levels due to high usage in area hospitals," said OneBlood community and donor relations representative Daniel Eberts in a statement.
In addition to other blood types, the organization is still requesting mass turnout of O Negative and O Positive blood doors. O Negative can be transferred to any patient in need, while the O Positive blood type makes up highest percentage of the population (37 percent).
OneBlood is the local blood center for the Manatee region. It also has facilities in Venice and North Port, as well as Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties.
