Local attorney Adam Tebrugge is challenging freshman incumbent Jim Boyd for his seat in the Florida House of Representatives to represent District 71, which covers the majority of the Manasota area. He pledges to "limit the impact of money on government, protect public education and our natural environment, and fight for affordable insurance for Florida residents."

Mr. Tebrugge is a graduate of New College of Florida and the Florida State University College of Law. He served for 23 years as an Assistant Public Defender for Manatee, Sarasota and DeSoto counties and has been practicing at Tebrugge Legal since founding the downtown Bradenton firm in 2009. He has also served as President of the Sarasota County Civic League, Vice-Chair of the Sarasota Police Advisory Panel, and most recently, as Chair of the Suncoast Partnership to End Homelessness in Manatee and Sarasota counties.

An official statement on the candidate's website reads, ”As a student of the law and an advocate for the people, I’m concerned that public policy is out of balance in Tallahassee. I felt compelled to run for the Florida Legislature to give a voice to the people of Manatee and Sarasota counties.“

A native of the Tampa Bay area, Mr. Tebrugge currently resides in Sarasota. He is married with two children.
