Expansion, Marketing and Tiger II Grant on Port Authority Agenda Thursday

Posted

MANATEE--The Port Authority will hold its regular meeting Thursday morning at 9 a.m. in the Intermodal Center. Items on the agenda include Phase 2 of the North Port Expansion Project, Tiger II Grant, a discussion of a succession plan and port strategic marketing plan.

Phase 2 of the port’s expansion project is the mitigation planning task. The purpose of the expansion is to allow the port to accommodate larger ships which will be traveling through the Panama Canal when its extension project is completed.

The Port Authority will also discuss the $9 million Tiger II grant which was awarded to the port from the DOT earlier this year. The funds are earmarked for construction of the port’s planned 32 acre container terminal next to Berth 12 which will help expand its container handling and storage capacity.
