BRADENTON – Fans who hope to see the Manatee High School football team depart for their game in Orlando will have a few chances on Friday.
At 12:45 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 18, the team will go by bus to the Citrus Bowl. They'll be playing Tampa's Plant High School in the Class 5A-State Championship game. They will leave from Hawkins stadium in plenty of time for the 7 p.m. kickoff.
There won't be a pep rally on Friday because of the early departure time, but students and staff will be lined up along 32nd Street West in Bradenton to see them off.
The buses will head west on Ninth Avenue West to 43rd Street West, then north on 43rd Street West past Jessie P. Miller Elementary School from 12:55 p.m. to 1:05 p.m., where students and supporters of the team are expected to gather. Once on Manatee Avenue, they will turn right and go east.
Another group of fans is expected at the Shake Pit, a popular Manatee High School hangout at 3801 Manatee Ave. W. The buses are expected to pass there at 1 to 1:10 p.m.
The buses go east on Manatee Avenue West into downtown Bradenton, where they will turn south on 15th Street West and then east again on Sixth Avenue West, which is a one-way street. The buses are expected to pass by the School Support Center at about 1:15 to 1:30 p.m. before turning north on U.S. 41 to head to Orlando. Fans and supporters can cheer on the team at any point in the procession.
All tickets to Friday’s game are $10 and can be bought at the Citrus Bowl, which is at 1610 W. Church St., Orlando. For more information on tickets, see this Web site.
If you can't make the game, it will be shown live on Fox Sports Florida, and replayed at 4 p.m. on Christmas Day.
