Below is a detailed list of construction and maintenance projects being performed by the Florida Department of Transportation in the coming week:
Manatee County Advanced Traffic Management System Phase 1: Construction project --- The Manatee ATMS Phase 1 project is the first phase of a multi-phased deployment of state-of-the-art technologies for the mitigation of traffic congestion and the improvement of traffic operations and traffic management in Manatee County. Work under this contract includes the installation of traffic control/monitoring hardware and software, fiber optic cable, and ADA improvements. Approximately 143 signalized locations will be upgraded to the new system, along with new control and monitoring equipment located at the Manatee County Public Safety Center. Limited construction is underway with no traffic impacts. The Contractor is Highway Safety Devices, Inc.
I-75: From University Parkway to S.R. 70: Construction project --- This project consists of milling and resurfacing the roadway, shoulder treatment, guardrail, signing, pavement markings and signalization. Beginning January 25, 2010, the contractor will begin performing construction activities to include shoulder treatment and signing work. These activities will take place during daytime hours and will not require lane closures. Guardrail work will begin February 22nd, 2010 during the nighttime hours and include single outside lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. In late March 2010, paving operations, pavement markings and signalization work will begin. These activities will take place during nighttime hours. In order to complete these improvements, ramp closures at University Parkway and S.R. 70 will be necessary. Detours will be established at these two interstate interchanges. Single lane closures will be in effect from 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Double lane closures will be in effect from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Ramp closures will be in effect from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. A detailed detour and lane closure schedule will be provided at a later date. Florida Highway Patrol officers will be assisting with traffic control in the work zone. The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC.
I-75: At S.R. 70 (Exit 217): Construction project --- This project consists of adding new lane onto the southbound exit ramp and provide two right turn lanes onto westbound S.R. 70 providing a new signalized intersection. Other improvements to the interchange include milling and resurfacing, installing new mast arm signal poles and storm sewer lines. Work is scheduled to occur Monday through Friday 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Motorists are advised to use caution while in the area and to expect possible delays. The Contractor is APAC-Southeast, Inc.
I-75: At the U.S. 301 Interchange (Exit #224): Construction project --- This project consists of widening the northbound I-75 exit ramp, constructing one additional left turn lane onto U.S. 301, widening the west approach on U.S. 301 to provide dual left turn lanes onto the southbound I–75 entrance ramp, widening the southbound entrance ramp to receive the dual left turn lanes and merging right turn lane, widening U.S. 301 on the east approach of 51st Avenue and 60th Avenue East to add one new thru lane and right turn lane. Other improvements to the interchange include milling and resurfacing, installing new mast arm signal poles and storm sewer lines. Work is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists are advised to use caution while in the area and to expect possible delays. The Contractor is APAC-Southeast, Inc.
I-75: From North of University Parkway to South of Curiosity Creek: Construction project --- This project consists of installing 18.4 miles of cable barrier along the I-75 median from North of University Parkway to South of Curiosity Creek. Other improvements include guardrail upgrades at the bridge abutments. Work is scheduled to take place Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists are advised to use caution while in the area and to expect possible delays. The contractor is Highway Safety Devices.
I-75: Northbound Over S.R. 64 (3 miles south of the Manatee River): Bridge maintenance project --- There will be intermittent right and left lane closures on Wednesday, March 10th and Thursday, March 11th, 2010 from 8 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. each morning for bridge maintenance. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect delays. The operation will be terminated if traffic backs up.
U.S. 301/S.R. 43: North of 71st Street East to north of 77th Street in Parrish: Construction project --- This project consists of milling, resurfacing, signing and pavement marking improvements. Construction work on S.R. 62 may delay traffic traveling on U.S. 301 from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. through March 2010. Motorists are advised to expect possible delays and use caution while in the area. The Contractor is Superior Asphalt, Inc.
U.S. 301/S.R. 43: From Old Tampa Road/Erie Road to Rutland Road/C.R. 675 (Segment B): Construction project --- This project includes widening the roadway from two to four lanes. Work also includes the installation of new drainage, sidewalk, lighting, signals and utilities. The contractor will be installing storm drainage, wastewater and potable water mains along U.S. 301 this week. Motorists should expect minor interruptions in traffic between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily for equipment crossings or temporary lane closures. Palm Boulevard is closed to traffic. Access to The Gardens is available by Tiger Lilly Drive. Continuous roadway closures include 97th and 98th Avenue E on the north side of U.S. 301. Use 96th or 99th Avenue. In addition, 100th Drive E remains closed on the north side of U.S. 301. Access will be available by way of Harrison Ranch Boulevard. The contractor is Woodruff and Sons, Inc.
U.S. 41: Between Addresses 3239 – 3500 on 14th Street West (Business 41): Maintenance permit project --- The northbound outside lane of Business 41 (14th Street West) will have intermittent lane closures between the 3200 block and the 3500 block on Tuesday, March 9th, 2010 beginning at 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. FPL crews will be setting three new poles at these locations. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect delays.
U.S. 41: At 17th Street East: Maintenance permit project --- The northbound and southbound lane of U.S. 41 in Palmetto will have intermittent lane closures from Sunday, March 7th through Friday, March 26, 2010 beginning at 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Crews will be making intersection improvements. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect delays.
S.R. 70: From west of Myakka-Wauchula Road to east of Sugarbowl Road: Construction project --- Improvements under this contract consist of milling and resurfacing the roadway, shoulder treatment, drainage improvements, guardrail, signing and pavement markings, and signalization improvements. Daytime lane closures are in effect with one-lane, two-way traffic with flaggers in place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. for shoulder improvements and guardrail installation. The contractor is APAC Southeast, Inc. Motorists are advised to use caution while in the area and expect possible delays.
S.R. 64: From west of County Road 675 to Wingate Road: Construction project --- Improvements under this contract consist of milling and resurfacing the roadway, base work shoulder treatment, drainage improvements, guardrail, signing and pavement markings and bridge barrier wall improvements at Manatee River Bridge. Daytime lane closures are in effect with one-lane, two-way traffic with flaggers in place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Bear Bay Road for shoulder improvements and ditch grading. Daytime lane closures are planned for the week of March 1st through March 5th, 2010 with one-lane, two-way traffic with flaggers Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. while crews complete work on bridge handrail and install guardrail at the Manatee River Bridge near C.R. 675. Motorists are advised to use caution while in the area and expect possible delays. The contractor is Superior Asphalt, Inc.
S.R. 64: From east of Lena Road to east of Lakewood Ranch Boulevard: Construction project --- This project consists of new roadway construction, milling, resurfacing, widening, drainage improvements, lighting, landscaping, signalization, signing and pavement markings. For the week of March 5th through March 12th, 2010, traffic will continue to utilize the current S.R. 64 travel lanes. Motorists should be aware of construction traffic, lane shifting and scheduled night work. Motorists are asked to please use caution while in the area. The contractor is Russell Engineering, Inc.
S.R. 64: West from 39th Street to Palma Sola Boulevard: Construction project --- This project consists of milling, resurfacing, turn lane extensions at 67th Street West, drainage improvements, curb and gutter, signalization, signing and pavement markings. Crews will be paving and working on turn lane extensions at 75th Street W., Village Green Boulevard, and 51st Street W., at night. Daytime operations will include installing a new drainage structure in the 6600 block of Manatee Avenue W. westbound. Nighttime lane closures will be in place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists are advised to use caution while in the area and expect possible delays. The Contractor is Superior Asphalt, Inc.
S.R. 62 and U.S. 301: From U.S. 301 to east of S.R. 37 in Parrish: Construction project --- This project consists of milling, resurfacing, drainage improvements, construction of new shoulders, pavement, driveway rehabilitation, guardrail, and signing and pavement marking improvements. Motorists can expect temporary daily lanes closures Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. through March 2010. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect delays during this period. The Contractor is Superior Asphalt, Inc.
