Florida Pro-Life Groups Press Gov. Scott to Cancel Planned Parenthood Funding

Posted
TALLAHASSEE – Florida pro-life groups are continuing to press Gov. Rick Scott to cancel Planned Parenthood's funding through the state, following an announcement that Scott would not make such changes.

That announcement came after Florida's Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA) performed an investigation into Planned Parenthood's Florida medical facilities that found no evidence that the facilities operated an illegal fetal tissue donation program.

The investigation was sparked by the release of an undercover conservative group's secretly recorded interviews with Planned Parenthood administration, which critics said were distorted and edited to imply that the organization was profiting off fetal tissue from performed abortions.

Planned Parenthood has rebuked accusations that it sells fetal parts for profits, claiming that such charges are false.

The organization's Florida affiliates currently receive funding through the state's Medicaid contracts, amounting to $45,000. The Florida Family Policy Council, a pro-life group, is calling on Scott to cancel that contract.

In a press conference, FFPCs President and General Counsel John Stemberger said that Scott ”has a moral, ethical and fiscal duty to do so given Planned Parenthood’s egregious conduct which includes fraud, waste and abuse.“

Stemberger added, ”In both his gubernatorial campaigns, Rick Scott campaigned that if elected he would be a pro-life Governor. We would now like him to take action like a pro-life Governor.“
