PALMETTO – Bring Dad to the third annual, family-friendly, charity fishing tournament at the BYC in Palmetto on Sunday. The event is sponsored by the International Association of Fire Fighters and all proceeds go to children burn victims.
The party will feature live music by New Justice. There will be raffles, food, fish and even bounce houses for the kids. The festivities start at noon. The inshore weigh-in will be held at 1 p.m. and the offshore at 3 p.m.
”I came up with the idea three years ago to help the Children’s Burn Foundation fund their burn camp,“ said founder Erik Nicholson. ”In the last two years we have donated around $15,000 to their cause.“
The Children’s Burn Foundation is an organization that is committed to enhancing the lives of young burn survivors. Their goal is to offer an opportunity for the children to see and interact with other burn survivors and know that they are not alone. Burn Camp offers an opportunity to build friendships, network for opportunities and apply for medical and/or scholastic financial assistance.
Nicholson is a firefighter for East Manatee Fire Rescue.
”All of the local fire departments have really been helpful with promoting this event, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the help of local sponsors,“ he said.
