Applications available Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am to 5:30 pm
The program is designed to provide wind mitigation upgrades to homeowners. This includes construction or modification of building components designed to increase a structure’s ability to withstand hurricane-force winds. Eligible properties are single-family homes built before 2001 on a slab foundation. Properties built on pier foundations are not eligible. The following types of work may be completed:
á Roofs: roof deck replacement, secondary water barrier, new shingles, and hurricane strapping.
á Opening protection (windows, doors): hurricane shutters and impact doors, including garage doors.
á Gable end bracing: depending on the height of the gables on your home, they may need to be braced to increase their wind resistance.
á Walls, floors: anchoring of wall or floor units to the foundation.
In addition, applicants must be current on their mortgage (if there is one on the property), have property insurance on their home, and be current on property taxes to be eligible. Wind hazard mitigation assistance will be awarded on a first-come, first-ready basis for homeowners living within the City of Bradenton city limits.
