Gary Don Hicks, 75, died unexpectedly September 1, 2024, at home. He was born October 31, 1948, in Lansing, Michigan. He is the son of the late Don and Myrna Hicks. He graduated from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan, in 1966 with a degree in graphic arts.
From there he served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany where he was assigned top secret map drawing and other projects. He was happy with this assignment since it kept him from having to do the hard training.
After the Army, he married Jill Pearson, she was the daughter of his favorite teacher in college. They celebrated 50 years of marriage last November. They had two children, Stacy Barnett and Cory Hicks and were blessed to have 5 wonderful grandchildren, Madison, MaKenzie, Malia, Zoey and Caleb. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Judy Lenon and Stacy's husband, Steve Barnett and Cory's wife, Melissa Hicks.
He was very active in his son's boy scout troop serving as the scout master until Cory finished with his Eagle Scout badge. He loved his scout troop and loved creating special memories for these great group of boys.
He worked as a permitting agent at International Sign and Design in Largo until he retired.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 PM, Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Brown & Sons Funeral Home 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West, Bradenton, FL 34209. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
